I love my sister!!

I just want the world to know I really miss my sister!! It was so great to have her here visiting for Christmas!! Thankfully I get to see her again in a few weeks when I go to visit my Granny in England. Susie will be coming over from Rome the same weekend. Well, anyways here is a picture of me with my big sis.

Congratulations!!

A little belated but... for those of you who know my brother, he's ENGAGED!!!! Congratulations Michael and Dana!! They got engaged this summer while in Italy and are getting married in Mexico in September. We are very excited to welcome Dana into our family. All I have to say is we used to at best get a gift card or a "let's call it even" for Christmas, but since this amazing woman has been in my brother's life, we get thoughtful gifts, beautifully wrapped, with bows on top!!!
We can't wait to celebrate with you!!

Boy or Girl???

So last Friday we went ot have our Ultrasound done to make sure everything looks OK with the baby and to find out if Isaac is going to have a baby sister or brother. And the big news is.... you'll have to wait to find out!!!!! Just like us!!! Apparently this baby is either modest or is trying to teach Mommy a lesson in patience. I've always wanted to have the will power to not find out the gender of our baby but knew given the opportunity I could never turn down the information. So as of right now.. who knows!! The good news is everything is looking good with the baby so far. I have another Dr's appointment on Friday and I'm going to ask if she plans to do another ultrasound. But if the answer is no, I guess we'll be waiting until mid May. The major down side is having to think of a boy name AND a girl name!! Oh well, guess we better start brainstorming.

Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson Look-A-Likes

Just a couple of anecdotes from my morning with Isaac...

I was looking at the paper with Isaac after breakfast and there is a big picture of Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson on the cover of the Calendar section of the LA Times. Isaac pointed at Morgan Freeman and excitedly said, "Emi". That's what he calls my mom!! Then he pointed at Jack Nicholson and said, "Opa". Granted, he did stay more focused on Jack Nicholson looking like Opa, which I can see how he thought that, but my mom and Morgan Freeman ..... Come on!!! Even if you've never met my Mom, I'm sure you can assume she doesn't much look like Mr. Freeman. I guess he just assumes that whoever is next to Opa must be Omi (Emi)!!

then a few minutes later I saw him kind of straining, if you know what I mean, and he looked at me, pointed at his behind and said, "poo-poo". Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our first sign that one day he will be out of diapers!! Considering how tricky it can be at times to change a VERY squirmy kid's poopy diapers, we can't wait!!!

Oh Christmas Tree

Please don't laugh at our little Charlie Brown style Christmas tree!!! Now that it's all decorated and on top of our TV cabinet (i.e. out of Isaac's reach) it actually looks very cute. If we hadn't just broken our second camera in 9 months, I would take a picture of it for you so you could see. I guess you'll have to use your imagination.

Trick or Treat

Yeah! We actually got Isaac to stay in his costume!!
"ooo-ooo-eee-eee I love bananas!!"
Isn't that just the cutest tail??
Isaac went trick or treating to one house but he was so freaked out by our neighbor in a mask that we just brought him home and he helped us hand out candy.

Pumpkin Carving

We thought Isaac would love all the slimy stuff inside the pumpkin but he really could care less...
the only part he really seemed to enjoy was taking the lid off and putting it back on.
and drawing some "hair" on the outside.
Isaac trying to make the same face as the Jack-O-Lantern.

Oktoberfest

On Sunday we spent a windy afternoon at the Phoenix Club for Oktoberfest.
Isaac was not too into wearing his "lederhosen" at first.
So the suspenders were a little long...
Dan, Rebecca, and Andre enjoying some good German beer!
With Opa!

Camping in Julian

A few weeks ago we took our first little family "camping" trip. We stayed in a little cabin but cooked outdoors, etc. Unfortunately, this area has been hard hit again by the fires this week, so who knows if our little cabin is still standing!!

An Explanation

My apologies to you faithful folks who come here to see updated pictures and anectodes of our lives!! I realize it's been a while since I've really posted anything. Trust me, I've written many blog entries in my mind and have intended numerous times to upload a few pics but.... I attribute the decrease in blog activity to two major converging events in the Schmidt household:

One, the switch from two naps a day to one for Isaac. I'm missing that 9AM break!!!

Two, I'm pregnant!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Which means when Isaac naps, I nap. It's about all I can do these days to take care of Isaac, do some grocery shopping, and some nights get dinner on the table! Thankfully I have a great husband who picks up a lot of slack and doesn't complain too much about me going to bed by 8:30 or 9 whenever I can! Anyways, the baby's due date is on Isaac's birthday (exactly!), May 17th. We are very excited and grateful to God that so far everything seems to be going well!!

Hopefully when I'm out of this first trimester I'll have a little more energy back to stay on top of things (like blogging) a little better.

Recommendations

So I need a few song recommendations. For my birthday I received an iTunes card which I'm very excited to spend!! The problem is I'm a little out of the music scene these days and would love a few suggestions from any of you that happen to be reading this. What's your current favorite groove? Here is what I've downloaded so far: (a little embarassing to admit, but here goes...)

Shake the Sillies Out by The Wiggles
Bananaphone by Raffi
The Lion Sleeps Tonight (can't remember who sings it but you know, the Wimewe(?) one)
Good Morning Baltimore from the Hairspray soundtrack
SexyBack by Justin Timberlake (couldn't help myself, I love that beat!)

I still have 20 songs to go!!!

So far 60% of the songs are Toddler songs ... shows what my life is about these days...

Anyways, please comment or email me at mrsgschmidt@yahoo.com with your suggestions!!

Soccer mom?

I know you are supposed to let your kids explore their own interests and all that... but I am secretly hoping that soccer is the sport and activity of choice for Isaac. I've always wanted to be a soccer mom!!

Yummy Corn

Isaac likes to do everything we do. I cut a bunch of corn off the cob for him so it would be easy to eat, but noooooo.... he wants the whole thing!!

Any Day Now...

Emma wanted to "identify" with Andrea.

Please pray for Andrea as she and Reid prepare to welcome baby Elijah into the world!!! She has been particularly enjoying the over 100 F heat these last few days of being pregnant!!

DTWTS- The Announcement

Yes, that's right, the contestants have been announced for the new season of Dancing With the Stars! I confess I have the season premiere marked in my calendar already(Sept 24). Should be another good season... I'm not particularly attached to any of the stars yet, but that usually starts to happen around week 3 for me. I guess the person I'm most curious about seeing on the show is Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks (and quite a Maverick himself). Amongst the others are boxer Floyd Mayweather, 90210's Jennie Garth, a Spice Girl (though not Posh), and Marie Osmond. Should be fun...

Here's the website if you are a junkie like me and want to check out the other dancers and who they are paired with... http://abc.go.com/primetime/dancingwiththestars/index?pn=announcement

Hopefully by Sept 24th we will have a functioning TV--Isaac pushed a few too many buttons and now it's at the repair shop...

Where's Isaac??

That's right, you won't find any pictures of Isaac on this page! Andre and I left Isaac with Omi and Opa for a night while we went to LaJolla to celebrate our anniversary (a few weeks late). We had a great time hiking at Torrey Pines, eating slowly, relaxing by the pool, reading the newspaper, and strolling on the beach. We stayed at a beautiful hotel, La Estancia, with a great pool and pretty gardens. We came back relaxed, refreshed, and ready to see our precious little one!

A Day in the Life

Today I decided to take a picture of Isaac each hour on the hour, no matter what he's doing. So if you ever wondered what a one-year old does all day, here is a little glimpse...

7:00AM Still sleeping...

**Out of order--for some reason I can't get this picture to move to its correct spot!!**
10AM We are off to CostCo to buy some chicken and a few other things.
8:00AM Woke up a few minutes ago, and now I'm ready to get out of here!

9:00AM Just got back from a run with Mommy and now I'm sitting in my wagon playing with keys.

11AM Lunch time...

12 Noon Time for a nap

1 PM Still snoozing...

2PM I just woke up a few minutes ago and now I'm playing on Mommy and Daddy's bed while Mommy puts laundry away.

3PM Mommy dragged me along to the mall to escape the heat and do a little shopping and now I get to play for a few minutes.

4PM My friend Noah came over to play while his Mommy is at the doctor. We are just enjoying a drink and a little snack.

5PM I'm really mad because Mommy won't let me take Noah's snack cup. She tried to give me one just like his but I want the one Noah has. Why can't she understand that?

6PM Yeah!! Daddy is home! Time to play!

7PM Time for a bath!

8PM Back to bed... I wonder what we get to do tomorrow...
